gd brochure

intro

The graphic design program at Dawson College is a three-year business program designed to provide students with the necessary skills to thrive in the ever-changing and dynamic industry. The objective of this project was to develop a graphic design brochure that effectively highlights the Graphic Design Program at Dawson College. The brochure would feature various elements, including detailed information on all the courses offered and their corresponding descriptions, as well as profiles of the faculty members involved in the program.

process + experience

I have a deep appreciation for graphic design, as it is always presenting challenges. It constantly evolves, making it both exhilarating and demanding to stay updated. This inspired me to create a booklet focused on providing strong and compelling design advice through visual means.

The title was inspired by renowned American graphic designer Paul Rand. . His famous quote "Design is so simple, that's why it's so complicated" captures the paradox of design. While it may appear simple on the surface, the process of creating effective and pleasing designs involves intricate decision-making and complex problem-solving. I used a combination of serif and sans-serif typefaces. The use of capitalized typography also plays a significant role, conveying a tone of confidence and assertiveness. Within each spread featuring the courses and their descriptions, I incorporated two contrasting pieces of advice, which crafts a narrative that builds throughout the booklet. To visually represent these pieces of advice, I utilized graphics and visuals, while also incorporating page manipulations such as die-cuts and hands-on drawings.

To conclude the booklet on a heartfelt note, I reached out to each faculty member and asked them to share their own personal piece of advice for aspiring graphic design students or professionals. This added a sentimental touch to the project and provided valuable insights from experienced individuals in the field.

outcome

The end result is an engaging and interactive booklet with a surprise on each page, and makes the readers truly see what is being told. I aimed for a personal and authentic approach that speaks directly to the readers to present the advice in a raw and unfiltered manner, showing the realities of the design world as they truly are. My ultimate objective is for the readers to not only understand but also deeply feel and appreciate the guidance shared within the booklet so the advice can resonate with them to be applied in their daily lives as designers.
